Has your busy schedule taken over leaving you desperately in need of a mid-term getaway?

It certainly had for me recently. Arriving home from work well after 9pm a couple Thursdays ago I decided to bite the bullet and take a relaxing 3 day break out of Sydney.

Switching off all technologies is something I often talk about but find it almost impossible to do. It was time to relax! With nothing but a beach towel and book at hand the car was packed in no time. .

Heading North out of Sydney our the drive up is always a pleasant one, surrounded by national park, so much to see and admire along the way.  Our destination, Blueys beach! Depending on traffic, Blueys is a three and a half hours drive out of Sydney. This amazing region is surrounded by lake on one side and pure white sand and Great Ocean on the other.  We first discovered this magical place I have come to know as paradise a few years back. My lifelong friend had been travelling and camping on a property they own at Elizabeth beach for over 15 years (literally two and a half k’s away from Blueys). Since then we have never looked back, it’s fast become our “local go- to getaway”.

You see sleepy surf towns like Blueys, Boomerang  and Elizabeth beach are exactly that, sleepy, well rested and relaxed. Even if this city slicker may have wanted to run at a hundred miles per hour, the locals wouldn’t allow it, forcing down time with their beautiful way of life. The town centre is so very unique, original buildings and shop fronts, almost like it has stood still in time. It was love at first sight. From the moment I arrived my body slipped into “recharge the battery time”. 

Over the years, health and wellness has fast become the trend in town. Organic coffee, fresh green juices and vegetarian meals are served up daily at Twenty By Twelve Cafe open 7 days a week. Green juice not your thing? Try a good old Aussie burger or local fish and chips served till late at night at The Palms Takeaway. If it’s a massage or general pamper to set the mood Shen @ Mobys Day Spa awaits, or maybe watching the sun rise over Elizabeth Beach Surf Club with a little Yoga is your thing… You can do as much or as little as you wish (I chose the latter).

Something really special happens to the body and soul with a tranquil sunrise while listening to the ocean. I wish I could capture that feeling in a bottle, spreading it over our daily Sydney routine. So where did I stay? One of my favourites has to to be Nellies  This ammmmmaaaazing beach front home will leave you searching for real estate and out of Sydney asap! Located perfectly on breathtaking Boomerang beach only minutes away from the centre of town.

What to expect: Untouched clean beaches, beautiful crystal clear ocean with roaring surf most time of year. Friendly locals that always want to stop and chat, great local food (no fast food chains), horse riding on 6 mile beach, surf or paddleboard lessons and an abundance of accommodation choices to suit all budgets found here Pacific Palms Holidays or Stayz.com

In the end whether you are looking for a relaxing trip, to be pampered, sightseeing, swimming, adventure, or just good old R&R Blueys region is waiting for your arrival. Be warned though and enter at your own risk as you may never want to leave….
